CANDICE - COCOBLISS
Owner and Creative Director of Coco Bliss
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START THE HUGELY SUCCESSFUL COCO BLISS?
My mum had terminal bowel cancer so I began researching how cold pressed juices and plant based/raw foods could help her through chemo and to attempt to heal herself naturally. There was nothing available in Brisbane where you could go and get an acai bowl, refined sugar free foods or a cold pressed juice so we decided to create it.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE BRAND?
To make whole food mainstream. To educate people on how eating whole foods and a diet rich in fats, minerals and enzymes is more important than counting calories, but to still make sure it tastes great and has a menu broad enough to cater to everyones tastes.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE COCO BLISS ACAI BOWL?
The Black Bowl! Its an acai base with activated coconut charcoal added to adsorb any toxins left floating around in the gut that your body hasn’t yet absorbed. Its also fantastic if you have a bloated or upset tummy, it even benefits a hangover recovery mission!
DESCRIBE A DAY IN THE LIFE OF CANDICE KEMP
I am lucky enough to be able to have a great work life balance now. A few years ago I couldn’t say the same, but now I can drop my kids off at school and work from home most days before picking my kids up at 3pm. I do travel to Brisbane 2-3 days a week for meetings and to touch base with our team, but otherwise I get FAR more done working from home where I’m undistracted.
Ive just started yoga this year to help with my migraines and general relaxation so 2-3 mornings a week I get up at 5 for yoga and 1-2 mornings i'll walk with a podcast on (another thing i've become obsessed with this year, so much so I even started my own!). Then i'll have time to shower, make my bed, get dressed for the day and clean the kitchen before taking the kids to school. If I don't fit all this in before school drop off the rest of my day is pretty much screwed and I am already behind the 8 ball.
Once I get back home I go through my emails, then social media posts and messages, then my checklist of what I need to do for the day, then I work my way through it. My home days I’m pretty much stuck on my computer all day until school pickup.
My Brisbane days I spend floating around our Coco stores and Villa because I can’t go past that for lunch, and the day is packed back to back with meetings now that I only have a few days in Brisbane to fit them in.
Our family is all back together at home by 4pm each day and then we’re spending time together. As embarrassing as this is to admit hubby and I are in our beds by 8pm most nights as soon as the kids go to sleep, and thats ‘us’ time unless we have work to do which we still do from our bedroom (we have a little lounge room in our bedroom which is our night time work space).
Whats your fave A+F pot?
I love so many of them, but the two Pancho pots I got in the peach and in the black are definitely my favourite. Even though I don't have any other peach around my house (yet) I just couldn’t go past this colour
How would you describe your style?
Ooh I don't really have a set style, I love fresh and bright and airy with lots of greenery, but I also love a touch of luxe so each room has its own style. Im sure thats probably a style sin!
